Prouty Exceeds $2 Million Goal!
July 21, 2008
The 27th Annual Prouty Century Ride & Challenge Walk broke all records this year. On Saturday, July 12, 2008, over 4100 participants gathered at the Richmond Middle School in Hanover, NH, to raise money for cancer research and patient services at Norris Cotton Cancer Center. They biked 100-, 50- and 25-mile routes through the Upper Connecticut River Valley and walked 5, 10, 15 or 20k residential or wooded walks around Hanover.
The weather was perfect and thousands of people gathered under tents on the school's playing fields to celebrate their athletic and fundraising success. And succeed they did! By the afternoon awards ceremony, the $2 million goal was met! And donations keep coming in.
The Prouty is the culmination of an enormous outpouring of support from the business community as well, as evidenced by the 138 businesses that donated either money or services to make the event a success. Feeding and caring for thousands of participants along the routes and at the school took more than 700 volunteers helping serve 2805 gallons of water, 300 pizzas, 600 sandwiches, 2000 hamburgers, 3000 hot dogs, 1000 sausages, 3000 cookies, 238 watermelons, hundreds of baked goods, and thousands of power bars-just to give you a "taste"!
Dollars raised through The Prouty provide critical seed money to investigators who have promising new research ideas, and they allow the Cancer Center to pursue new frontiers like nanotechnology and tumor immunology. These funds also sustain patient services such as support groups, the patient library, massages, and Reiki. The Cancer Center is grateful to everyone who helped make The Prouty such a great success.
