Meyers Named Administrative Director for Community Outreach

October 6, 2009

Norris Cotton Cancer Center has appointed Sarah Meyers as the Cancer Center's Administrative Director for Community Outreach. This newly established position within the Cancer Center Senior Leadership team reflects the emerging National Cancer Institute (NCI) focus on community engagement, and is responsive to a central goal of the Cancer Center's Strategic Plan: to raise public understanding of cancer prevention and awareness of the Cancer Center regionally and nationally. It also responds to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center strategic vision: to achieve the healthiest population possible.

Meyers will lead planning and integration across Cancer Center programs in the community, communications/marketing and development, and a recent new initiative in education and prevention.

For more than a decade, Meyers has provided administrative support to the cancer research enterprise, has led the development of the NCI Core Grant and other grants central to the Cancer Center's mission, and has initiated and mentored programs related to patients and the community. Meyer's transition to community outreach leadership is based on her deep understanding of the Cancer Center and her prior experience in science writing (Encyclopedia Britannica, John Wiley), communication and consumer affairs (American Management Association, New York Magazine), school administration, and community leadership. Meyers will continue to provide planning and communication support to the Office of the Director.
