People are actually now sicker as they die, and some find that treatments become a greater burden than the illness was. On Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network on June 30, Ira R. Byock MD, Director of Palliative Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center and Professor of Anesthesiology and Community & Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, discussed the trend of people being "overtreated to death."
