We offer all-in-one clinics for some of the most common cancers. These clinics let you meet with multiple specialists in the same day. Patient Navigation

Through a partnership with the American Cancer Society, Norris Cotton Cancer Center Manchester has a patient- and family-support specialist, known as a Patient Navigator, on our team. She meets with patients, their families, and the people taking care of the patient to make sure all their questions get answered.

This service is free and confidential, and is designed to take care of needs that go beyond medical care. For example, she helps patients and their families with:

  • Information and resources for patients and caregivers
  • Logistics, such as getting to and from treatment
  • Financial complications and barriers
  • Emotional supports

Norris Cotton Cancer Center North in St. Johnsbury, VT, is a dedicated cancer care and survivorship facility. It provides patients in New Hampshire's North Country and Vermont's Northeast Kingdom with advanced technology and state-of-the-art treatment within a friendly, patient-centered environment close to home.

Specific treatments are developed for patients in coordination with local health care facilities or Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, and in conjunction with the referring physician, patient, and family. Services

Radiation therapy is one of the most common cancer treatments, used in more than half of all cancer cases. The quality of the North facility's radiation treatment stands apart from any other in the region.

Radiation Therapy

St. Johnsbury's sophisticated Linear Accelerator from Varian provides advanced on-board imaging (OBI) and therapeutic techniques such as respiratory gating, VMAT, IMRT, as well as conventional 3D conformal therapy. Experienced radiation therapists work with patients in an environment focused on superior patient care and comfort.

Chemotherapy

The infusion treatment area is where most chemotherapy patients spend the majority of their time. Chemotherapy is very individualized, and is prepared in-house by our pharmacist. The chemotherapy suite has six infusion stations with comfortable lounge chairs, television, and views of the beautiful Vermont landscape, and two private infusion rooms designed for patient comfort. Patients also receive treatment in partnership with local community hospitals.

Specialized Cancer Care

All treatment is closely monitored and overseen by a team of medical and radiation oncologists and nurses dedicated to personalized, friendly patient care.

Additionally we provide specialty care in familial cancer/cancer risk assessment and palliative care.

    Cancer programs/services

    The oncology team works on behalf of the patient and family in conjunction with the patient's primary care physician, the Visiting Nurse Alliance, the Brattleboro Area Hospice, and complementary care providers. Although radiation therapy equipment is not available at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, we work collaboratively with Norris Cotton Cancer Center Keene at Kingsbury Pavilion in Keene, NH.

    Patients with cancer are offered pain and symptom management expertise, in addition to the administration of chemotherapy and other methods of treatment. The Brattleboro Memorial Hospital surgical staff can implant chemotherapy ports. The oncology staff can provide routine port care. The oncology team also provides ongoing education and emotional support for both patients and their families. Other services include administration of blood products and medications which help increase blood counts. Clinical trials are also available.

    Cancer support groups meet at the hospital monthly.

          As part of Norris Cotton Cancer Center's network affiliate program, Cancer Center physicians and advanced practice nurses provide specialized care to the patients at New London Hospital. Additionally, Cancer Center oncologist Marc Gautier, MD, sees patients twice a month in New London.

          Oncology patients at New London Hospital receive a local option for individual care and do not have to travel a half-hour or more for treatment. At the hospital, they find high-back leather-like recliners, a naturally lighted room, and flat screen TVs. DVD players and Internet connections provide patients and their families with additional amenities that help pass the time during treatment. The goal of the new Specialty Services Unit at the hospital is to make what may be a difficult treatment as comfortable and convenient as possible.

              The mission of the Oncology/Hematology Department is to offer the highest quality outpatient care in a personalized setting for adults with cancer and blood disorders.

              Dr. Steven Larmon, an oncologist at Norris Cotton Cancer Center Keene at Kingsbury Pavilion in Keene, NH, is head of the oncology department. The department is further supported by Dr. Jill Winslow, also from Kingsbury Pavilion, Susan Brighton, APRN, and three full-time RNs.

              While ninety percent of those treated in the oncology department are patients with cancer, the department also does infusions for outpatients suffering from chronic diseases like emphysema. They also do blood platelet transfusions. The department is licensed to administer all FDA-approved chemotherapy agents.
