The principal purpose of the American Cancer Society Research grants is to support studies undertaken by investigators who are early in their careers and need pilot data before submitting individual research grant applications.
Applicant guidelines
- Eligible applicants must not have received prior cancer-related R01 support from the NIH (or comparable support from NSF, ACS) unless an initial grant was not renewed.
- Applicants must not hold an academic rank above Assistant Professor and must be within the first six years of their appointment. Research associates, instructors, and postdoctoral fellows are not eligible.
- Prior recipients can request a second year of funding for the same project.
Grant guidelines
- Up to $30,000 may be requested, primarily to pay for necessary supplies, reagents, animals, etc.
- Major salary support for technicians is not allowed. No part of the principal investigator's salary will be provided.
- The award may not be used to augment programs already funded within a laboratory or group.
We encourage applicants to discuss their plans with more senior faculty from the Cancer Center and, when appropriate, to seek biostatistical advice before submitting a proposal.
