Steven D. Leach, MD, Director of the Dartmouth Cancer CenterThe Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center announce the launch of the 42nd Annual Prouty, northern New England’s largest family-friendly fundraising event to benefit life-saving cancer research and patient and family support services at the Dartmouth Cancer Center. Registration is now open for the July 14-15, 2023, event with participation options including; cycling, walking, rowing, golfing, and the Prouty Ultimate (2 days of cycling throughout NH and VT). Virtual participation is also available.
“We are thrilled to launch the 42nd Prouty in support of our Cancer Center, all of our patients, and the community,” said Steven D. Leach, MD, Director of Dartmouth Cancer Center, New Hampshire’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. “The Prouty has a profound impact at our Cancer Center. It allows us to give compassionate, disease-specific care to our patients close to their homes. It allows us to fuel ground-breaking cancer research and expand clinical trials to provide patients with new treatments which improve outcomes. It allows us to provide widely utilized support services to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey. The Prouty has a direct impact on the lives of neighbors and friends, and we are extremely grateful to the entire Prouty community for their continued support.”
The Prouty began in 1982 when four Cancer Center nurses, inspired by the courage of their patient, Audrey Prouty, committed to cycling 100 miles through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. For the past 42 years, thousands of passionate individuals have come together to bike, walk, row, golf, and more to help end cancer. Since its inception, the Prouty has raised more than $52 million to support cancer research and patient support services.
“The Prouty is a true celebration of our community coming together to make a difference and bring hope to cancer patients and their families,” shares Jaclynn Rodriguez, Executive Director for the Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center. “This year we are launching the Prouty season with a goal of raising $7 million for the Dartmouth Cancer Center, to make an even larger impact on cancer research and patient support services. With additional dollars raised, we will be able to further advance clinical trials and expand the new Dartmouth Cancer Center food pantry for patients, in addition to continuing to fund pilot research studies and the Complementary Care Program for patients and their families. We are extremely grateful to our longtime partner, the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, who will be offering a dollar-for-dollar match on all donations to the Prouty. Every dollar makes a difference. Join us as we go all in to end cancer!”
