NRG-HN009 : Randomized Phase II/III Trial of Radiation with High-Dose Cisplatin (100 mg/m2) Every Three Weeks versus Radiation with Low-Dose Weekly Cisplatin (40 mg/m2) for Patients with Locoregionally Advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck

Principal Investigator

Philip Schaner

Study Number

STUDY02001471

Summary

This study is for patients with Advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck (SCCHN) that has not spread to other parts of the body. The study will compare low dose cisplatin with high dose cisplatin given with radiation to identify if low-dose cisplatin given weekly is the same or better than the high-dose cisplatin given every 3 weeks. There will be 1250 patients involved in this study to determine if the side effects of cisplatin low dose more frequently are less then with the high dose standard treatment. The study will also hope to determine if the low-dose cisplatin approach will extend your life by the same amount of time as the high-dose cisplatin approach.
